SUFFOLK, Va. - For a second weekend, there will be another directional closure of the Monitor Merrimac.
Starting as early as Friday night at 9 p.m., drivers won’t be able to take the northbound side of the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel/I-664.
Construction crews will have the northbound lanes blocked in Suffolk, and will not have it reopened until early Monday morning, around 5 a.m.
VDOT has noted the reason for the project as repaving operations along the bridge-tunnel system. They’ve also advised the construction will happen weather permitting.
The best alternates for northbound Monitor Merrimac during the closure are the James River Bridge or westbound I-64/HRBT. However, give yourself some extra time as there may be congestion - many other motorists will be detouring as well.
