VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach native & Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi is recognized by Virginia Beach for his success on and off the field on Tuesday.

The City of Virginia Beach is announcing that February 18th is officially Derrick Nnadi Day.

The Super Bowl champ will also be honored in a homecoming at Ocean Lakes High School and the Boys and Girls Club, where they'll unveil their brand new media room in honor of Nnadi, who made a donation at the beginning of the 2019 season.

Tuesday's events come after Nnadi became a huge story across the country for sponsoring more than 100 dogs at Kansas City Pet Project. He recently presented the shelter with a check for more than $18,000, the cost of the adoption fee for the 109 dogs who were available for adoption before the Super Bowl.

The Virginia Beach native played high school football at Ocean Lakes High School, and was drafted out of Florida State in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
