INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Yet another Hampton Roads athlete now has NFL game experience.

In Sunday's Los Angeles Chargers victory vs. the New York Jets, Suffolk's Cole Christiansen made his NFL debut. The rookie linebacker, promoted from the team's practice squad this week, played 17 snaps in the game - all on special teams.

Christiansen, a Nansemond-Suffolk Academy product, was the first two-time captain for Army's football program since the 2016 season. He finished his career with 35 career starts, and was one of nine semifinalists for the 2019 Lott IMPACT Trophy, recognizing a player who makes the biggest IMPACT on his team both on and off the field.

A four-year letterwinner and a three-year captain for Nansemond-Suffolk under head coach Lew Johnston, Christiansen played running back and linebacker and was voted the two-time Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Defensive Player of the Year.

Christiansen was signed as an undrafted free agent in April.
