NORFOLK, Va. - Following his historic performance Sunday vs. San Francisco, Washington defensive end Chase Young had company at the postgame press conference.
Young's mother Carla, via FaceTime, joined the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Chase had been chatting with his mom prior to meeting the media after the game. And, they had plenty about which to chat.
In Washington's 23-15 victory, Young recorded six tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and scored his first NFL touchdown. According to Washington Public Relations, Young is the first rookie in NFL recorded history (since 1999) to record a sack, two passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a fumble return touchdown in the same game.
"Is your mom actually on the phone right now?" a reporter asked Young early in his media session.
"She's right here," Chase responded while picking up his phone to reveal his mother on the screen.
"What did you think of the touchdown tonight?"
"Oh my gosh, I'm just so worn out," Carla admitted. "It was just so outstanding. I couldn't even believe it. I was in shock."
News 3 Sports Director Adam Winkler doesn't score NFL touchdowns and doesn't have the talent of Chase Young - but he does have a mother. So, Monday night - Wink pulled a page out of the playbook of Young and had his mother, Kathy Winkler, join him to recap his sportscast.
