CHARLOTTE, NC (BigSouthSports.com) – In voting by the league’s head coaches and media panel, the Big South Conference's 1st-team features a pair of Hampton Roads local talents.
Newport News product Jermaine Marrow (Hampton University) and Portsmouth's Travis Fields, Jr. (Radford University) were both voted 1st-team All-Conference.
Marrow, the Heritage High School product, averaged a league-best 24.3 points/game for the season. Now a two-time selection, Marrow missed six games due to injury but still became the first Big South player to lead the league in points and assists (6.5 apg). Marrow, who had eight games of 30+ points and 13 games of seven or more assists, is also the only player ranked in the top 15 nationally in both categories.
Fields, Jr., a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School, ranked 16th in the Big South with 12.7 points per game and 8th in the league in assists. The senior is averaging more than two 3-pointers per outing and is shooting just under 43 percent from beyond the arc. He notched double-digit points in 21 of the 30 games this season. Fields, Jr. leads the team with 60 3-pointers this season and is second on the team with 31.9 minutes per game.
