LANDOVER, Md. - A win against the Carolina Panthers would have given Washington head coach Ron Rivera both revenge and an NFC East title, but instead Washington struggled in its 20-13 loss.
Washington quarterback Alex Smith was announced as unavailable before the game because of a calf injury, so Dwayne Haskins started the game, but was pulled in the fourth quarter in favor of former ODU standout Taylor Heinicke.
During Haskins' time on the field, all the Football Team could muster was two field goals.
With two minutes remaining in the game Washington scored its first touchdown. Taylor Heinicke completed a 29-yard touchdown to J.D. McKissic to make it a 20-13 game.

Washington can still secure the NFC East title with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles in next week's regular season finale.
