CHESAPEAKE, Va. - One year ago Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LIV. Kansas City will be back-to-back champions with a victory in Sunday's Super Bowl LV.

However, as Chiefs Kingdom focuses on the future - we go three years into the past.

News 3 was at Derrick Nnadi's house April 27, 2018 - the night the Chiefs selected the Virginia Beach native in the third round of the NFL Draft.

"It's a long time coming, man," Nnadi, the Ocean Lakes High School alumnus told News 3 that night. "A lot of things I've been through. Sometimes, I wanted to quit," Nnadi admitted.

But, instead of hanging up his helmet, Derrick is filling-up his trophy case.

Three years in the NFL, the Chiefs defensive lineman has played in three AFC Championship games. Sunday vs. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Nnadi will try to win his second straight Super Bowl title.

This week, just like we did back in 2018, we visit the Nnadi family's house for their perspective on their son's and brother's 'Super' journey.

"It's a great honor to have a son that has worked so hard all his life to achieve what he has achieved for himself," Fred Nnadi, Derrick's father said.

"Derrick is such a cool dude - all around," Laura, Derrick's sister pointed out. "The dogs he has sponsored and all his endeavors he has going on, it's just so amazing."

"I'm just so proud of him," admitted Ashley-Nicole, Derrick's sister. "He's worked so hard and still being the same person off and on the field."

Derrick is the youngest of seven children. Most of the family plans to be in Tampa for Sunday's Super Bowl LV - a contest you can watch LIVE on News 3.
