VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Chiefs defensive tackle and Ocean Lakes High School product Derrick Nnadi returned home to Virginia Beach on Tuesday, when Virginia Beach City Council members officially named February 18th Derrick Nnadi Day.
In addition to his visit to Virginia Beach City Hall, the Super Bowl champ stopped by his high school and the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia.
Nnadi donated money to the Boys and Girls Club at the start of the 2019 NFL season and on Tuesday the organization unveiled the brand new media room that was made possible by his contributions.
"When I was growing up, going through this, we didn't really have anyone to talk to like that," Nnadi said, after spending time with the Boys and Girls Club children. "All these kids look up to me for things I've done. It's pretty impressive in my eyes because I've always wanted to be somebody that kids look up to and if he can do it why can't I.
"Even when I left for college I said no matter what I'm doing, I'm in my eyes the ambassador of what Virginia Beach stands for. All the things I've done, all the things character-wise is based on Virginia Beach, the whole 757 area. To come home to the city that made me, embraces me, it means the world to me."
