Along with the Pac-12, Big Ten, Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC), Patriot League and the IVY League, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has decided that it will not be sponsoring fall sports.

That means William & Mary joins Norfolk State of the MEAC and Hampton University of the Big South who will also not be playing.

On July 13, Hampton announced that they were suspending all fall sports indefinitely and on July 16 the MEAC announced they would do the same.

This leaves Old Dominion of Conference USA in an unforeseen situation as the Monarchs were scheduled to host the Hampton Pirates this season.

Conference USA has not said they are canceling their football season at this moment in time.

The CAA’s suspension of football will not come without financial pushback. A combined total of at least $26 million in payout is due to FCS schools in 2020 from matchups with FBS schools, according to USA TODAY.

The CAA had 13 games scheduled against FBS teams with eight of the 13 being against teams in one of the Power 5 conferences (Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12 and Southeastern Conference).
