NORFOLK, Va - The show will go on! That's the message about the annual Black Diamond Weekend, set to kick off this Friday.
Black Diamond Weekend is a three-day celebration of the successes of black business owners in Hampton Roads. Normally, the event is in person, but because of COVID-19, this year's event has transitioned into an online conference.
There are a number of guests scheduled to appear, including internationally-known motivational speaker Les Brown. News 3 This Morning anchor Blaine Stewart spoke with Blair Durham of Black BRAND about why this kind of event is so important.
"Some of the things I'm hearing is can I pivot? Is a pivot even possible for me? Is there a new business I can start, are there opportunities I don't know about? Where do I begin? An environment like this is going to answer all of those questions," Durham shared.
Entrepreneurs interested in registering for the online event can sign up for access until the conference begins Friday. As business owners attempt to rebound from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Durham says events like this weekend's are key to building a network of support.
"These are connections you can take with you," Durham adds. "These aren't experts that are so far off, so celebrated, that you can't access them after the event to get those next steps done in a practical way."
