VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A professor at Virginia Wesleyan University is celebrating his 55th year teaching. He said it is his final.
Dr. Larry Hultgren joined faculty when the school was called Virginia Wesleyan College. Then, the college had yet to produce a single graduate.
The university said the 79-year-old came to the college because he wanted to be part of something special.
Dr. Hultgren was hired to build a philosophy department from scratch, which he has since accomplished.
The school said he has taught longer than any other faculty member in Virginia Wesleyan history.
