VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A home on King Richard Drive goes all out for Halloween, creating a backyard haunted house that's for a good cause.
“It’s to give back to everybody,” said homeowner Lori Bagley.
Lori Bagley has been putting on the haunted house for 10 years. The admission is a donation to the food bank. She said in years past, they've collected as much as 700 pounds of food.
“I like to take the kids and drop the food off so they understand where it’s going, and what we are doing this for,” said Bagley.
Her volunteers are local neighborhood kids; Bagley said she loves teaching them how to create the scary scenes.
“I like being able to show them how this works, how we can put a motor on something and make it move, that’s the fun part for me is building the things and showing the kids how easy it can be,” said Bagley.
She said the planning begins in July, and building begins in August. She estimates their setup is worth $10,000-$15,000 dollars. But for her, it's a labor of love.
“I know how I want it to look and I spend hours out here at night wandering around making sure all the lights are right, everybody’s lit up, everybody is moving right,” said Bagley.
The haunted house is recommended for ages 5 and up. It's open Halloween night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. It's located at 500 King Richard Drive.
