SUFOLK, Va. — It’s time to take a walk with Patrick and today he’s visiting a short walking trail that will end up being part of the longest trail in Hampton Roads.
Yes, It’s called the Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail and eventually may connect five Hampton Roads Cities, and it could even link to trails across Virginia.
The trail is being built on an old rail line, running through much of the south side of Hampton Roads.

We visited one of the completed sections where the old railroad tracks have been replaced with a wide paved path.
This short section is off of Town Point Road and runs parallel to Pughsville Road.
There are plenty of tall trees here lining the wide trail, so there is a lot of welcome shade from the intense summer sun.

But since this is an urban trail, there are also many nearby homes. That means it’s convenient to a lot of people.
The path is very flat, meaning folks in wheelchairs can use it along with parents pushing strollers, and dogs on leashes are welcome. Dachshund Deanie enjoyed her visit.
Although we only saw runners and walkers on our visit, once all the individual sections are finished and connected, I think bicyclists will love it. It will eventually end up being about 15 miles long.
The city of Suffolk recently received more than 5 million dollars from the federal government to complete the final piece of the trail and connect all the individual sections.
