NORFOLK, Va. - Here at News 3, we love shedding light on the positive stories happening in our community. Tonight, we're telling you about a local high school student who’s getting a high honor for her creative talents.

Ayana Ashanti Askew is a senior at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk.

And get this - the teen is now being recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for her excellence in arts!

Askew is one of five students in Virginia - and only 20 students nationwide - to receive a U.S. Presidential Scholar Award in the arts.
