NORFOLK, Va. - How old were you when you decided what to be when you grow up?
On Wednesday, middle school students in Norfolk were introduced to nearly two dozen careers...and News 3 got to be a part of the event!
Norview Middle School hosted a career fair for more than 1,200 sixth, seventh and eighth graders.
News 3 was one of 23 vendors who set up inside the school's auditorium. Anchor Anthony Sabella and Chief Photojournalist Wade Francom talked with students about life working in journalism and let the kids get a close look at some of the equipment.
The counselor who put the fair together says she was inspired by her own experience in struggling to find the right career fit.
“Had I taken it more seriously or known that it’s not just '9 to 5' or 'you have to go to college' or 'this is where you have to go,' I may have been open to more opportunities," said Brittni Luzama. "I think it’s important now, especially with high school coming up, they get to choose courses that reflect what may have — light bulb — gone off here.”
Among the other career opportunities represented were architecture, forensic science, health care, environmental, military and entrepreneurship.
