PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center has something cool and unique happening right now.

"It's a traveling exhibit of nine artists that all work with these inflatable materials, not unlike the tacky yard decorations you see around Halloween and Christmas time," said Stephen Grunnet, the Museum Gallery Supervisor for the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center. "These are artists that are taking these ideas and materials and saying okay, I want to do something unique with this and have people appreciate it as a work of art."

Grunnet says, if you're one of the first people to walk in, you can watch the sculptures come to life.

The exhibit is titled, "Blow Up II." Some sculptures are hand-painted and sewn, while others are designed on a computer.

"Some of them are very light and colorful and whimsical and some are a little more contemplative and serious, so they each have their own kind of effect on people," said Grunnet.

One collaborative team, "Friends with you," has designed for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and worked with Pharrell Williams for Something in the Water.

You still have a few days to check out this larger-than-life exhibit. It runs through May 5. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $3. Children four and under are free.
