How about prepping for Thanksgiving extra early by making room for ingredients and leftovers in your fridge? Tuesday is National Clean Out Your Fridge Day.
The National Sanitation Foundation says leaving expired meat and veggies in the fridge can lead to some nasty diseases. Once the fridge cleared out, make sure you give the interior a good scrubbing too.
Donating to a local food bank
Speaking of a Thanksgiving meal, thousands of local families will be left with an empty table and empty stomachs this year, and local food banks need your help to change that.

Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore
Looking ahead to the weekend — the Coastal Virginia Auto Show returns to the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Friday. There, you can check out the newest and most high-tech vehicles.
Tickets are $15. It runs all weekend long during the following times:
Friday, November 18 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
Saturday, November 19 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sunday, November 20 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Lace up your tennis shoes! This weekend the Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon returns to the riverfront! This Saturday, there will be a 5k and a kids mile race in the morning.
On Sunday, the half marathon and 10k kick off at 7:30 a.m. You will need to register ahead of time.
Making Strides in Hampton Roads: Southside Walk
If walking is more your speed, a reminder that the southside's Making Strides walk is happening this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer. It's happening at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach. If you want to join the News 3 team, there is still time to do so.
How about taking part in a marathon that requires no exercise at all? 106.9 The Fox and FM99 is hosting the Mayflower Marathon food drive this weekend.
The 57-hour long food drive is happening at four different locations: Pembroke Square, the Kroger in Suffolk at 1017 University Blvd., the Kroger in Hampton at Coliseum Central and the Kroger in Tabb/Yorktown at 5007-2 Victory Blvd.
Simply drive through to donate — volunteers will be on site Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. through Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Bayport Credit Union Holiday Lights at the Beach
The lights are returning to the Oceanfront boardwalk!
The Bayport Credit Union holiday lights at the beach are kicking things off Thursday with a bike event.
It is completely free, and you don't even have to register ahead of time. It takes place on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
If you can't make it, the drive- thru event kicks off on Friday and will run until New Year’s Day. Tickets start at $30 per car.
Olde Towne Open House & Tree Lighting
Friday over in Portsmouth, the city is turning on the lights for all to see.
In Olde Towne they are hosting an open house and tree lighting.
From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be music, Santa Claus, dancing and Christmas shops open to all.
It's free, but they do ask that you bring an unwrapped gift for Toys for Tots if you can.
Up in Hampton this weekend, they are having a shell-abration!
On the docks of downtown Hampton, several organizations are celebrating Virginia Oyster Month! They promise to have oysters shucked, cooked, stewed and brewed for you to purchase-- just in time for Thanksgiving.
There will also be live music, prizes and family fun.
The Shellabration takes place this Saturday from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
If you're in the Suffolk area Friday night -- the city is hosting its Grand Illumination Ceremony downtown at Market Park. There you can watch the 32-foot tree light up when the city rings in the holiday season. Santa Claus is also expected to make a pit stop. There will be horse drawn carriages, music and more.
Norfolk Grand Illumination Celebration
Saturday, if you're looking to find some holiday spirit-- downtown Norfolk hosts its Grand Illumination parade throughout the city. It starts at 7 p.m., but city officials recommend claiming your spot around 5 p.m. The parade route starts at St. Pauls Boulevard and ends on Waterside Drive.
