Hunter Biden’s law license is suspended in DC following his felony conviction, according to an order from the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Earlier this month, the president’s son was found guilty on all three felony charges against him for lying about his illegal drug use on a federal form to purchase a gun.
The Office of the Disciplinary Counsel had sent a letter on June 17 to the D.C. Court of Appeals with a proposed order for the suspension, according to reports.
On Tuesday, the appeals court said Biden’s law license was suspended immediately “pending the resolution of this matter and directing the Board on Professional Responsibility to institute a formal disciplinary proceeding to determine the nature of the misconduct.”
The suspension comes one day after lawyers for Biden requested a new trial for their client, arguing the Delaware court that convicted him did not have jurisdiction over the case.
If the current conviction stands, Biden could face up to 25 years in prison.
President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden’s father, had previously spoken out in support of his son but said he would "respect the judicial process” and not pardon him.
Hunter Biden was convicted on June 11 after three hours of jury deliberations.
