NORFOLK, Va. - It’s been a day of blue skies and sunshine, and nothing goes better on these kinds of summer days than ice cream!

As they have every Wednesday this month, Nauticus hosted free ice cream for kids at its new outdoor restaurant, the Big Whisky Porch, which overlooks the Elizabeth River. As long as you buy admission to the museum, any kid under 15 gets a free scoop.

“We’ve seen a lot of locals who haven’t been on the Battleship [Wisconsin] maybe in a couple of years. It’s a great place to social distance and spread out along the decks, and then obviously come and cool off with some ice cream. It’s been fun, and we just want to be here and do fun things for the community right now,” said Rehn West, the Development Director for Nauticus.

The promo ran every Wednesday in August, and the 26th was the last day. Nauticus officials says they plan to do more promotions in the future as their new 6,000-sq. ft. exhibit from Australia based on "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" opens in September.

Nauticus' operating hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 12-5 p.m. on Sundays.

Admission to Nauticus Battleship Experience starts at $9 per child and $11 per adult.
