NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk City Democratic Committee announced Saturday that voters living in the 90th House of Delegates have selected their Democratic nominee.

Angelia Williams Graves narrowly won against former Norfolk Police Detective Richard James. Graves will run against the Republican nomination to fill the seat in a special election on January 5.

Former Democratic Del. Joe Lindsey resigned from the seat last month in order to become a judge in Norfolk.

Republicans are holding their own caucus on Sunday at American Legion Post 327 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Two political newcomers are seeking the nomination. Mario Portillo and Sylvia Bryant are hoping to flip the seat red.

The seat is normally blue with a Republican only winning once and serving one term since 1982.

"I have a proven record. I'm a trusted and compassionate leader," Graves previously stated.
