HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Would you like to go for a run and help show support for military members overseas? The 'Murican Five-Mile Virtual Fun Run kicks off Thursday!
Military nonprofit organization, Troopster, is holding a week long virtual run fundraiser, The ‘Murican 5 Mile’, from September 17-23, to fundraise for deployed Air Force service members overseas.
The event will be held in celebration of the Air Force’s 73rd birthday, on September 18. Participants can join from anywhere in the world and the five mile goal can be walked, ran or jogged at any time and from any location. The virtual run can be completed individually or in teams. Families and teams are welcome.
The goal is to get care packages to Air Force members overseas. The packages are headed to members deployed in Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Qatar.
There are four levels of registration from $10 to $125.
Participants can register with a $10 donation or receive “runner perks” for each registration level. Level perks include shirts, medals and runner boxes. Prizes and medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the run for various challenges, such as ‘first to 5 miles’.

“At Troopster we are sending hundreds of care packages to the brave military members deployed overseas,” said Chelsea Mandello, founder of Troopster. “During COVID, we wanted to find a way to continue helping our brave service men and women who are deployed, as well as offer a way for all of those at home to help in a fun, interactive way. What better than through a virtual fun-run?”

September 17, 8 a.m - Virtual Run opens to all participants and teams.
September 22 - Notice of final mileage to runners.
September 23, 11:59 p.m. - Virtual Run Concluded
September 24, 11 am - Announcement of first, second and third place winners
