NORFOLK, Va. - The pandemic is making it tough for students trying to decide where to go to college.
Schools have suspended their typical campus tours.
There is still a way to get a glimpse of what schools have to offer, though.
Collegewise and StriveScan are holding a virtual college fair on Oct. 26 and 27.
More than 200 colleges are signed up to present.
Schools on the list from Virginia and North Carolina include:
- Davidson College
- North Carolina State University
- University of North Carolina School of the Arts
- James Madison University
- Roanoke College
- University of Richmond
- William & Mary
- Hollins University
- University of Mary Washington
- American University
There will also be featured speakers touching on topics such as creating a compelling college essay.
Organizers say it's important for students to cast a wide net when looking at options.
"Oftentimes students don't realize that the cheapest place may not be the one down the street," explained Casey Near, Executive Director of Counseling for Collegewise, "It might be one, two states away because there might be some sort of deal between your two states, or you might get a merit scholarship for that school, so casting a wider net also potentially could give you a better deal in the long run."
Near says it's also important to make sure the school is a good fit for you so that you're successful in the long run.
"We don't want you just to get into college. We want you to graduate," Near said.
The virtual fair is free, but you do need to register for each session you want to attend.
