Virginia State Police investigating Norfolk officer-involved shooting

NORFOLK, Va. - The Virginia State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Sunday morning in Norfolk.

According to the Norfolk Police Department, around 12:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a man tampering with cars in the 2400 block of Juniper Street. When officers arrived, they encountered a man who ran from the scene.

During the foot pursuit, the man displayed a firearm in the direction of an officer. The officer discharged his service weapon, striking the man once.

The man fled the area in a vehicle and was taken into custody in the 5900 block of Granby Street. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

The involved officer was placed on administrative duty, and the Virginia State Police and the Norfolk Police Department's Office of Professional Standards are conducting separate investigations into the shooting. No officers were injured during this incident.
