VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach Public Schools updated families on upcoming changes as schools close for two weeks due to coronavirus.

VBPS says Monday will be a staff day only for essential employees as they work towards preparations for the extended closure. Schools ask for those who need to pick up a Chromebook, medication, or other personal items to arrange to do so Monday.

School buildings will be closed after Monday through March 27 or until further notice.

If students need to pick up items after Monday, VBPS says to email the school principal to arrange pick up or call 757-263-1111 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

School officials ask families while schools are closed to encourage students to utilize material teachers have provided. Parents of pre-K students have received information from the child's teacher. Students in grades K-12, will receive at a minimum one learning activity per subject each week. Families will be contacted for more information regarding "virtual office hours" with teachers.

School officials say school counselors are available through email of Schoology message.

For students with disabilities, case managers will partner with teachers to ensure the student has access to supports and work with any needed accommodations.

Virginia Beach Public Schools say they will help families without internet connection by filling out an online form or by calling 757-263-1111 for arrangements.

Beginning Tuesday, meals will be offered to all students using a pick up method. Meals will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. till noon at the following schools:
