VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A local organization of educators is holding a virtual rally regarding the safe reopening of school buildings on Sunday.

The rally, hosted by Virginia Beach Educators United, is set to begin at 6 p.m. and will feature several guest speakers.

The virtual rally is being held on Facebook, just two days before Virginia Beach City Public Schools school board meeting on Tuesday. A previous meeting was held on January 5, where COVID-19 issues were at the forefront, and there was discussion of a phased return of students.

The Virginia Beach City Public Schools system announced during that meeting that it will hold its Standards of Learning (SOL) testing in the classrooms beginning January 6.

According to VBEU's Facebook page, this rally is designed to "unite in solidarity as the January 12 meeting approaches." Other school districts have not yet set a date to return, instead say they are waiting on COVID-19 metrics improvements.
