VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Beach courthouse was under an evacuation order due to a bomb threat, according to the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K9 Unit investigated the threat made at 8:33 a.m. with assistance from the Virginia Beach Police Department and the Portsmouth Police Department’s K9 Unit.

No explosive devices or any other public safety threats were located and the building was declared safe to reenter by 10:20 a.m.

So far, it is unclear who made the threat and what the threat entailed.

“For the second time in three weeks, the Virginia Beach Courthouse, and the people in it, have been threatened by an anonymous caller to 911. The VBSO reiterates that when it comes to the safety of the public, we take no chances," said Undersheriff Brian Struzzieri in a release sent out Tuesday afternoon.

Struzzieri referred to the past two incidents as 'acts of terrorism.'

"We take all threats seriously and consider them ‘acts of terrorism’ against our judicial process. We are having the source of these threats investigated to find the culprit(s) responsible," said Struzzieri.
