VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Three murals near the Virginia Beach oceanfront are now breathing life in vivid color and detail.
One such mural is painted by Reesah Islam and her fellow artist, Poetry Jackson. It started as an outline before the two started painting it with a variety of colors.
Islam said the mural she painted was inspired by her grandmother and is honored to share her story during this collaboration.
"She lived in Bangladesh and she was actually a very successful headmaster and artist and she's the one that really inspired me to become an artist,” Islam said. “So I really wanted to bring her story to a place like this where you wouldn't normally find someone like that."
It is one of three murals News 3 told you about on Sunday -- A partnership with the ViBe Creative District and the non-profit, Utopia Feni.
The collaborative is to help promote diverse artists and to help them promote their talents as artists.
She said there is still more work to be done before it is complete. Her mural, as well as the other two, will be on display until September.
