Police are investigating a homicide in the 1400 block of Harpers Road.
Around 8 a.m., the department said they were in the area investigating a "suspicious death." Now, a homicide investigation is underway.
Detectives said they are working to piece together the chain of events which led to the deadly shooting.
The shooting took place sometime after midnight, however, anyone with immediate knowledge left the scene without calling 911, police explained.
At 3:48 a.m., Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a call regarding a shooting in Virginia Beach at an unknown address somewhere near a storage facility.
Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) were dispatched to try to locate the victim but were unable to with the "imprecise information they had to work with".
The victim’s family got in touch with VBPD and provided more accurate information on where to locate the victim.
The victim has been identified, but not all family members have been notified, police explained.
There are no further details to release at this time.
