ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A lockdown has been lifted at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City after the school received a threat suggesting there was an active shooter on campus Thursday morning, police said.
After receiving the threat through an anonymous TextNow number, the Elizabeth City Police Department was on the premises of the school and had the campus locked down while they searched.
After lifting the lockdown at about 12:30 p.m., Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools released a statement on its Facebook page.
Earlier this morning, Emergency Management received a phone call suggesting that an active shooter was on the campus of Northeastern High School. School administrators and law enforcement responded immediately by initiating a lockdown. After a thorough search of the campus, no threats were found.
We are grateful for the quick response of emergency management and local law enforcement.
Additional law enforcement personnel will remain on the campus of NHS and CES for the remainder of the school day as a precautionary measure.
