LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty University announced in a Friday release that Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. will take an "indefinite leave of absence" from his role.
The Executive Committee of Liberty University's Board of Trustees met Friday to make the decision, which will require Falwell to step away from his roles as President and Chancellor of the university.
Falwell, who has been Liberty University's president since 2007, agreed to the leave of absence, the university said.
No reason was given for the leave, though the announcement came after Falwell apologized for posting photos on social media that critics said were distasteful, according to the Associated Press.
