PORTSMOUTH, Va. - If you have a student in the Portsmouth Public Schools system, they will be learning from home until the end of the semester.
During a meeting Thursday night, the Portsmouth School Boardvoted to continue virtual learning for all students through the end of 2020. The last school day before winter break is Friday, December 18.
Board members also voted to have students in pre-kindergarten through third grade begin a hybrid schedule after returning from winter break Monday, January 4, 2021. All other grades (four through 12) will remain in full virtual learning as school officials to monitor the COVID-19 positivity percent rate in the city and evaluate school mitigation procedures. The division will look to gradually expand the hybrid schedule to more grade levels as the second nine weeks progresses.
All students with special needs and English-Language Learners who have been brought in for in-person learning in the first nine weeks will continue to have in-person instruction provided for the second nine weeks.
