PORTSMOUTH, Va. - May 1 is School Lunch Hero Day in Virginia! It’s a celebration which recognizes and honors the school nutrition professionals who prepare healthy school meals for students every single day.
School officials say food services workers have been working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to make sure no child in Portsmouth goes hungry.
Friday, to say ‘thank you,’ the Superintendent of Portsmouth Public Schools is visiting the school feeding sites to deliver certificates to staff members, all while practicing social distancing.
“We could easily just send them an email or make a phone call, but we thought it was important to make a personal visit and award them with these certificates to show our appreciation during this time,” said Dr. Elie Bracy, III, PPS Superintendent.
Dr. Bracy says once everything returns to normal, they will honor staff members again – face to face.
