UPDATE: 33-year-old man charged with first degree murder for Portsmouth homicide

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Portsmouth Police Department is investigating a gunshot wound incident that left a man dead.

Officers responded to the 3900 block of George Washington Highway for a reported gunshot wound incident.

Upon arrival at around 1:16 am, 27-year-old D’Quonn Lee Epps was located by officers with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Medical personnel began life-saving measures, but his wound was fatal.

A second victim was later located near the 200 block of Paradise Drive. The victim is a 39-year-old male who suffered a serious gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Detectives are searching for 33-year-old Jamal R. Cannon. He is considered a person of interest in the investigation.

This investigation is ongoing.
