CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Former President Donald Trump held a campaign rally at Historic Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake on Friday — the day after the first 2024 presidential debate between himself and President Biden.

5:31 p.m. - Trump concludes more than 90-minute speech
After speaking for more than an hour and a half, Trump has concluded his event in Chesapeake.
He closed with a familiar cadence of his campaign tagline.
"We will make America powerful again. We will make America wealthy again. We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. We will make America free again. We will make America great again."

By noon, there were thousands of Trump supporters at the rally. News 3's Jay Greene spoke with some supporters, who said they're hoping the former president discusses the economy and the border during his speech.

10 a.m. - DPVA holds press conference criticizing Trump
The Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) held a press conference, addressing Trump's Chesapeake rally and Thursday night's debate.
DPVA Chair Susan Swecker said Biden's performance "wasn't his best." However, she focused on the statements Trump made during the debate.
"Donald Trump is the same liar that he was in 2020 when he ran for re-election, and he's the same liar he was in 2016 when he ran for election," said Swecker.
9 a.m. - Supporters share their excitement for the former president
A supporter and merch vendor at the event told News 3 he felt jobs were more readily available and accepting during the Trump administration.
Another supporter told News 3 that she felt Trump "addressed so much," during his presidency. When asked about his performance during Thursday's presidential debate, she said, "he was respectful and he was really on the spot."
