EASTERN SHORE, Va. — After investigating, Virginia State Police say a fatal crash on the Eastern Shore was caused by a driver failing to yield when crossing through an intersection.

Around 7:10 p.m. a pickup truck and a tractor trailer crashed on Route 14/Lankford Highway at Daugherty Road, according to the Virginia State Police.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck did not yield the right of way when trying to cross through the intersection of Route 13 and Daugherty Road. As a result, he crossed into the path of a tractor trailer and was hit on the passenger side of his truck, police added.

They said both vehicles ran off the road, and the driver of the pickup truck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected.

The driver of the pickup truck died from the crash, according to police. Police have identified him as 43-year-old Eduardo Marvin Simon-Gabriel from Accomack County.

Police added that the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
