NORFOLK, Va. - A Norfolk woman will serve five years in prison after being convicted of abuse and neglect of her disabled son.

Georgia Arenz was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 15 years suspended, resulting in 5 years of active time to serve for two felony charges of Abuse or Neglect of an Incapacitated Adult. S

Georgia and her husband, Philip Arenz, were charged in May 2018 following an investigation into the care of their adult son with cerebral palsy. She served as 24-year-old Jason's primary caregiver.

According to court documents, the neglect was so bad it caused permanent injury to Jason, who was "covered in feces" when brought in to the hospital. He also had multiple pressure ulcers and sacrum bones, along with bed sores that were infected with maggots and other insects.

In court, the Commonwealth's Attorney said Jason was 'skeletal' and referenced bed sores that were so deep bone and tissue were visible.

The case against Philip Arenz remains pending.
