NORFOLK, Va. - The City of Norfolk said that the remaining portion of the Confederate monument in Downtown Norfolk will be removed Sunday morning.
According to Lori Crouch, director of communications for the city, a contractor successfully removed the monument's pillars Saturday.
The top statue of the Confederate monument was taken down Friday, June 12.
City council previously signed off on a plan to hold a public hearing and to vote on where the monument would be relocated. That is scheduled to happen on July 7.
Military or government organizations or museums can express interest in getting the monument, city officials said.
