NORFOLK, Va. - A man has been taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following a midday shooting in Norfolk. Our News 3 reporter Kelsey Jones says a neighbor told her his son was caught in the crossfire.
Jones asked the neighbor was he fearful that he was going to lose his son.
"Damn, yes I was," said Quinton Fields a concerned resident.
Fields says his son called him with the disturbing news.
"He calls and says I'm on the run. You on the run from who man? They shooting out here daddy, get up! get up! I'm running this way, I'm running that way. I said Q come on home man make it back to the house," said Fields.
Fields tells us his son was at Shop N Go when everything spiraled and the shooting now has the family on edge.
"It just disturbed me to see something like this at this time of day and it shook my neighbors up," said Fields.
Police say that the shooting took place in the 500 block of Mahone Ave. The call for the shooting came in around 11:40 a.m.
"I think he got hit about 4-5 times and he was just bleeding and hollering help! help me!" said Fields.
But just right down the street, one woman who did not want to show her face on camera says she isn't shocked about the violence.
"It seems like especially in the Summertime there's been a lot of different fights and shootings. I'm not surprised at all," said Fields.
A community she calls quiet, now has her questioning her family's safety.
"I think people just don't care anymore and unfortunately it's very sad," said the concerned resident.
Norfolk Police is still investigating.
