Norfolk man arrested, charged with second-degree murder in connection with fatal 2019 shooting

NORFOLK, Va. - A Norfolk man was arrested in connection with a 2019 shooting that left one-person dead on West Balview Avenue.

According to police, on May 21, 2019, around 11:15 p.m., 51-year-old Brian P. Austin was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the 200 block of W. Balview Avenue. Austin was pronounced deceased on-scene.

As a result of the investigation, Tyron A. Whitaker, 18, was indicted by a grand jury and arrested for second-degree murder and use of a firearm.

Detectives have not released the motive or circumstances surrounding this homicide.

Whitaker is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
