NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk City Council has a new member.
Monday, the city announced Danica Royster was appointed as the councilperson representing Superward 7.
She replaces former Councilwoman and Delegate-elect Angelia Williams Graves, who won the special election for the 90th District of the Virginia House of Delegates on January 5. Graves' election created a vacancy on the council, where she served for 10 years.
The council accepted letters of interest from anyone who wished to be considered for the position representing Superward 7 until a special election is held.
Council members conducted interviews with the top three candidates during the January 12 public work session.
Royster will be sworn in on January 13 and will be on the dais for the January 26 council meeting.
A special election is scheduled for May 2022.
