NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Animal Care Center has resumed in-person visits by appointment with an adoption promotion.

On November 9, the animal center began welcoming back guests with an adoption promotion of $35 for dogs and cats six months and older.

NACC says they are offering scheduled appointments through WaitWhile, which is an online wait-list app.

If you are unable to download the app, send an email to nacc@norfolk.gov or call 757-441-5505.

“We’re excited to welcome visitors to our shelter again, with health and safety protocols in place to protect them and our staff,” said Bureau Manager Michelle Dosson. “And we’re celebrating with discounted fees to find homes for all of our loving and lovable animal companions.”

NACC will limit visitors to 10 at a time.

All staff and visitors are required to wear a face covering and NACC will provide one if needed. Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the facility. Floor stickers are in place to mark six-foot social distancing space and arrows help direct traffic and keep customers separated.

The shelter is open for in-person visits on Thursdays from 2 p.m to 6:30 p.m., and all other days from noon to 6:30 p.m.

Those who are not visiting animals at the shelter, such as for pet licenses, will be placed on the wait list and paged when they can enter. Customers can also schedule appointments for these services too.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, NACC says they have found nearly 525 cats and 389 dogs loving homes.
