NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - In a letter Tuesday, the superintendent of Newport News Public Schools announced that the school system is postponing its 'Return 2 Learn' phased hybrid learning plan that was approved by the Newport News School Board last week.
The school district will now continue with virtual learning until at least the end of November.
On October 6, the board voted 5-2 in favor of the hybrid learning plan, which would have included a phase-in approach, bringing students back by program and grade level.
The first phase would have included special needs and English learner newcomer students on October 19.
In early August, they voted to begin the first nine weeks of the school year with virtual learning amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
