CHESAPEAKE, Va. — At 6:49 p.m., units responded to the newly opened Walmart at Sam's Circle for the smell of gas inside of the building, according to the Chesapeake Fire Department.
The store was evacuated while crews investigated.

The fire department said Chesapeake's Hazardous Materials Team was called in and used gas detection meters while searching the store, including rooftop HVAC units.
The smell dissipated shortly after crews arrived and the hazmat team reported negative findings on all meters, according to the fire department.
Customers were allowed back in the store by 8:45 p.m.
