NORFOLK, Va. - Miss America was in Hampton Roads teaching young girls about science on Thursday.
Camille Schrier, a biochemist and the 99th Miss America spoke to fourth and fifth grade girls at Norfolk’s Oceanair Elementary School.
In December, the Miss Virginia winner famously did a science experiment as her talent at the Miss America competition to win it all.
She won the whole thing!
Thursday she told her young audience to celebrate what makes them different.
She also spent time answering questions.
“We lack a lot of female role models in science for those young girls and I didn’t really have that when I was their age. I think it was a really great opportunity to show them science is fun and cool and you can be a girl with a crown on and also do science and that’s the message I hope to impart on them,” Camille Schrier, Miss America said.
Schrier is studying pharmacy as a doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University.
She’s taking time off while she fulfills her Miss America duties.
