NORFOLK, Va. — Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro made a trip to Hampton Roads on Thursday.
Del Toro visited the USS Gerald R. Ford at Naval Station Norfolk.
The Ford recently finished a six-month maintenance period at Newport News Shipbuilding and is now preparing for its first deployment scheduled for this fall.
"She's absolutely ready to fight," Del Toro said. "We're very excited as she continues to do her workups for deployment, and I have every confidence in the world that she's going to be ready to go."
Del Toro also highlighted the centennial of Navy aircraft carriers this month during his visit.
