PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Portsmouth Police are investigating a shooting that left one man seriously injured.

The shooting occurred near the 70 block of Afton Pkwy Wednesday afternoon.

Police say one man suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound. He’s being taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Neighbors described hearing dozens of gunshots being fired. Dozens of case markers lined the ground outside of a neighborhood market and the front door of a business was shot out.

A stray bullet also hit a house, but no one inside the house was hurt.

Nearby, Anchor Baptist Church planned to still hold Wednesday night services at their church, even though the front door to the church was blocked by the crime scene. The pastor told News 3 there was no consideration to cancelling.

This is a developing story and News 3 is at the scene trying to get more information.
