Man dies in Virginia Beach shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened overnight Monday.

The incident was in the 600 block of Newtown Road around 12:30 a.m.

Officers arrived on scene and said they found an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was standing in a parking lot when he was approached by an unknown person just before he was shot, according to police.

The victim was identified on Friday as 22-year-old Richard J. Anderson.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Virginia Beach saw more crime in the city over the weekend as two adults and two children were taken to the hospital following a shooting Sunday afternoon and police responded to a shooting that sent three teens to the hospital near Lynnhaven Mall on Saturday night.
