Hookah business co-owner dies in Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police responded to the scene of a shooting and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officials pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The call was received at 12:18 a.m. and officers were sent to the 15300 block of Warwick Boulevard.

Witnesses told News 3 that the victims was 49-year-old Loren Javell Ransome, one of the co-owners for Jackpot Hookah, the place where the shooting reportedly occurred.

"He was always trying to lift people up," said his business partner.

Newport News Police Department has collected video surveillance from the scene to review.

There is no suspect information at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.
