Local school districts announce winter break schedule for grab-n-go meal distribution

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Several local school districts will continue to provide free meals during winter break for all students.

Here's a list of the school districts that have announced their winter break schedule for food distribution:

Norfolk

School Nutrition will be offering free grab-n-go meals for children ages 18 and under at 23 school locations on Mondays and Wednesdays during Winter Break.

The dates of distribution will be December 21, 23, 28, and 30 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the following schools:

Chesapeake

School Nutrition staff will continue to provide meals at no cost during the Winter Break. Meals will be available on Tuesday, December 22, and Tuesday, December 29 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at each high school and at several community sites from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Newport News

Over the winter break, Meals-To-Go will only be available on December 21, 23, 28 and 30 from 4 to 5 p.m. Two meals will be distributed on these dates at the following sites:

  • Newsome Park Elementary School, 4200 Marshall Avenue, 23607
  • Achievable Dream Academy, 726 16th Street, 23607
  • Crittenden Middle School, 6158 Jefferson Avenue, 23605
  • Warwick High School, 51 Copeland Lane, 23601
  • McIntosh Elementary School, 185 Richneck Road, 23608
  • Epes Elementary School, 855 Lucas Creek Road, 23608

Williasmburg- James City County

“Grab and Go” Meals will be available for pickup on Dec. 21 and Dec. 28 from 8 – 11 a.m. These are the only two days that meals will be available during Winter Break. Students will receive meals for the duration of the school closure. Meals can be picked up at James River Elementary School, Toano Middle School, James Blair Middle School, and Matthew Whaley Elementary School.

Suffolk

The Suffolk Public Schools Nutritional Services provided two 5-day meal kits last week for families during Winter Break.

Meal kits included five complete breakfasts and lunches, along with heating instructions for items that are best enjoyed hot. No meals will be delivered between December 17 to January 3. Regular meal service will resume Monday Jan, 4.

Virginia Beach

Meal service will continue through Tuesday, Dec. 22, with bagged meals distributed at schools and delivered to selected neighborhoods as they have the last couple of weeks. However, these services will not be available during Winter Break. They will resume Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.

Anyone wanting to pick up meals for Winter Break should contact their nearest school as soon as possible.

Normally, while the division is in virtual instruction, all VB schools will be providing free breakfast and lunch (dinner has recently been added) Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., with the Friday bag containing breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday. Meals may be picked up from any school, regardless of where your child is enrolled.

VBCPS also offers weekday meal delivery in multiple neighborhoods.
