NORFOLK, Va. - One of the most important days of the election season is around the corner – Super Tuesday.

“It’s a really big deal,” says Craig Kevorkian. He’s a volunteer with Bernie Sanders' campaign.

An Old Dominion University freshman who spoke to News 3 says she didn’t need a reminder about primary elections coming up. She just put her vote in the mail.

“My absentee ballot for the primary presidential election,” said Zabia Evans.

She did it to make sure her voice is heard.

“A lot of people my age don’t think they have the responsibility to do it or it matters, but it matters to express your vote,” said Evans.

Her friend, George Lopez, is still trying to wrap his head around this year’s election and candidates.

A recent Christopher Newport University poll of Virginia Democrats shows Joe Biden leading with 22%, Sanders with 17% and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg at 13%.

“They talk about themselves and kind of bash the other candidate. I kind of want an open review of who wants to do what,” says Lopez.

Araceli Nelson is a junior at ODU.

“I see a lot of Bloomberg ads and people wearing t-shirts of who they support,” said Nelson.

She’s being proactive and trying to learn about the Democratic candidates.

“Tomorrow, I want to see Bernie Sanders,” she adds.

Senator Sanders will be campaigning in Virginia Beach at Virginia Wesleyan University Saturday evening.

“I’m really hoping we will get a lot of turnout and support at the rally,” Kevorkian.

Former Vice President Biden will also make a stop in Norfolk this weekend.
